ADOPTED 2016

NAME: AVA
BREED: Chihuahua mix?
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 11/17/14
COLOR: Fawn
WEIGHT: 7# BIO: Hi there, my name is Ava. I was surrendered to SCBR because the family that inherited me wasn’t able to keep me. I get along fabulously with older children and adore men and women. I do not need to be placed in a home with other dogs. I am perfectly content being an “only child”. I love to just sit around with you, be held and love to be cuddled and snuggled with. I am supposed to be house trained, but my Foster Mom is currently giving me a refresher course on that. If you are looking for a little dog that loves to snuggle and will sleep with you and give unlimited love and companionship – I am your girl. I may be cat-friendly, it would just depend on the cat. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration). You must have a completely fenced and secured yard in order to adopt me.

**UPDATE: Ava was adopted 4/10/16 by a very loving woman in St. Clair Shores MI. Such a little cuddle bug, that we are sure will be very happy in her new forever home with her new forever Mom.

NAME: BELLA
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 2/29/16
COLOR: Black, docked tail natural ears
WEIGHT: approx. 40#
**COURTESY POST** Bella is a spunky, typically playful, little female puppy. She is currently in foster care with an older male Bouvier. Since she has been in foster care she is learning a lot of new commands: sit, down, roll over, no bite and also leave it. Bella is doing fantastic in the house training department - having no accidents in the house or her crate for a week now. Bella is crate trained, walks well on a leash and she is being socialized with her three daily walks; where she meets and greets other dogs of all shapes and sizes as well as people. She is spayed, has been wormed, she is UTD o all age appropriate vaccinations and also micro-chipped. It is imperative that her adopter must have a completely fenced and secure yard for Bella to play in. If approved, you must be able to go for a meet & greet to her foster home in Mechanicsburg, PA to meet Bella.

**UPDATE: Bella was adopted 8/27/16 by a very Bouvier savvy family in Indiana. We are so happy that we could assist in finding little Bella her new forever home.

NAME: BISON (renamed ACE)
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: 4/7/14
COLOR: Black/Silver Brindle, docked tail, natural ears
WEIGHT: 52#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Bison. I was surrendered by my family because there were personal problems being dealt with and my Mom felt it would be best for me if I found a new forever home where they could devote the love and time to me that I deserved. I am housetrained, crate trained, know some basic commands and get along great with people, older children and other dogs. I love to go for walks and absolutely love to play. I am a very active, energetic and playful boy. Obedience training would be a definite plus, because I am still “puppy brained” and am like the energizer bunny. I am perfectly content when around people as long as they are willing to spend some time loving on me or playing. I am definitely not a couch potato and need someone that can keep up with me. I would not be a good companion for a senior or laid back dog. Because I am so young I would probably run an older dog ragged trying to keep up with me. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm checked and micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration). You must have a completely fenced and secured yard in order to adopt me. Most likely not cat friendly.

**UPDATE: Bison was adopted 5/14/16 by a wonderful and loving family in Oshkosh, WI. Bison not only has a new Forever Mom and Dad, but also has a 5yro Golden Lab named Tinley to keep him company. Ironically Bison’s birthdate is the same as his new Forever Dad’s birthdate.

NAME: DANGER (formerly RANGER)
BREED: Husky mix
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 6/4/16
COLOR: Black & White
WEIGHT: 27#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Ranger. I was adopted at a very young age by a family as a “child’s pet”, only to realize that there was a lot more to bringing up a puppy than the parents had planned on. Thankfully they realized they were not prepared for properly raising me and decided to surrender me to SCBR so that I could be adopted by a family that was able to raise me and care for me. As young as I am, my Foster Mom has had tremendous results in housetraining me and socializing me. I get along fabulously with other dogs, children and adults. Because of my size and energy I probably wouldn’t do well with cats – for some reason they don’t want to run and play with me like the dogs do. I am very intelligent, loving and obedient for my age. I am age appropriately UTD on all vaccinations, housetrained, crate trained and micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration). I love to play with other dogs and children. Due to the fact I am so young and active and will probably turn into a fairly large dog, it is not recommended that I be adopted by a family with real young children. I wouldn’t intentionally hurt them, but I am so young I am sure that I would accidently knock them down if given the opportunity. I walk fairly well on leash and love to play, go for walks and car rides. So if you are looking for a new companion and best friend, look no further. I am young enough that you could receive the rewards of properly training me and molding me into everything you have ever wanted. You must have a completely fenced and secure yard (not electric or invisible) in order to adopt me.

**UPDATE: Danger (aka Ranger) was adopted 10/22/16 by a young couple in Flint, MI. A wonderful, loving family that knows and loves the breed. We couldn’t be happier with Danger’s selection for new forever parents. It was love at first sight for everyone.

NAME: DREA
BREED: Doberman Pinscher
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 12/4/14
COLOR: Red (Mahogany) & Brown, docked tail, cropped ears
WEIGHT: 40#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Drea. I was surrendered to SCBR because since my Mom went back to work, they were unable to give me the time and commitment they felt I deserved. I am housetrained, crate trained and have manners. They felt I was having to be crated way too long because I was “breaking out” of my crate. I am fine being crated or confined for a limited amount of time (i.e. overnight or a couple of hours) but I’d get a little wound up if it is for an extended period. I get along great with kids, dogs and possibly “dog friendly” cats. I am looking to adopt a family that is willing to spend quality time with me. I am still young and have a lot of energy so I would like to have a fairly active family. Because of my age and energy it is not recommended that I go to a family that has young children. I have a lot of love to offer I just need to find someone to share it with. I walk well on a leash and love to cuddle and play. My fur is like patent leather – so sleek and shiny. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm checked, micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration)

. **UPDATE: Drea was adopted 7/11/16 by a very loving woman that is near and dear to quite a few hearts in Capac, MI. She knows Dobermans and has raised them in the past.

NAME: ECHO
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 8/7/10
COLOR: Black brindle, docked tail and cropped ears
WEIGHT: 95.5#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Echo. I was surrendered to SCBR due to family health issues. I am housetrained, get along great with children, adults and other dogs. As you can see, I am overweight (the vet claims obese – my Foster Mom says I am “fluffy”). In the short time that I have been with my Foster Mom I have already dropped a couple of pounds. I am a very passive girl that just wants to cuddle and be near my “person”. I am very obedient, love car rides and know basic commands. I will make a devoted and loving companion. I walk well on a leash. I am up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm checked, micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration). Currently being fostered in Imlay City, MI. You must have a completely fenced and secured yard in order to adopt me.

**UPDATE: Echo was adopted 3/5/16 by a very loving and Bouvier savvy family in Milan, MI. Echo is the fourth rescue that this family has adopted from us. Echo not only has a new Forever Mom and Dad, she also has a Bouvier sister named Pouchie. Here is a picture of Echo when she came in looking like a Buffalo and a picture of Echo with her new “do” taken with her new Mom and Dad on adoption day.

NAME: FRECKLES (renamed Tootsie)
BREED: Beagle/Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen mix?
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 1/25/16
COLOR: Black & White
WEIGHT: 19#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Freckles. I was surrendered to SCBR because my owner could no longer take care of me. The rescue and vets think that I am possibly a PBGV mix because of my wirey hair, conformation and long body. The owner knows that my Mom was a Beagle, but didn’t know who my Dad was. No matter what, I am a purebred “cutie pie”. I get along great with other dogs, children and people. I love to run, play and just hang out. My “happy” picture on the left is when I realized I was going for a car ride. The “stoic” picture below it is when I realized I was going to the vet to be spayed. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped (w/lifetime registration). I am crate trained and my foster Mom is working on the finishing touches of my house training. I was crated the majority of my life and just allowed to run free in my neighborhood because my former family didn’t have a fenced yard – which was a big problem. That is when my foster Mom stepped in and managed to get me and keep me safe. I am a very loving and attentive little girl just looking for a warm lap and loving arms to hold me. I could love you to the moon and back – if you gave me the opportunity. My foster Mom says I am just a “doll baby”. I am young enough that if you have a “dog friendly” cat, there is a possibility that we could become best buddies and companions. You must have a completely fenced and secured yard in order to adopt me.

**UPDATE: Freckles was adopted 9/1/16 by a very loving family in Dryden, MI. They are hoping to be able to train her to be a therapy dog.

NAME: JAKE
BREED: Poodle
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 2/2/11 (approx. 5yrs old)
COLOR: Apricot
WEIGHT: approx. 9#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Jake. I was surrendered to SCBR because of my Mom’s health and her un-ability to be able to properly care for me any longer. My Foster Mom says that I have a wonderful personality and that I love everyone and everything. I get along great with other dogs. I am housetrained and crate trained and just love to cuddle and play. Because of my size it is not recommended that I be adopted by a family with real young children. When I came in I was matted and in desperate need of a haircut, but thanks to my Foster Mom (and groomer) working her magic I cleaned up very nicely don’t you think? I am up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm checked (negative) and micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration). Currently being fostered in Almont, MI. You must have a completely fenced and secured yard in order to adopt me.
**UPDATE: Jake was adopted 2/6/16 by a wonderful family in Clinton Twp, MI that just recently lost their beloved Apricot Poodle named Rudy.

NAME: JEANA
BREED: Yorkshire Terrier
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: 1 ½ yro
COLOR: Black, Tan & White
WEIGHT: 6#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Jeana. I am the product of a puppy mill. I was sold to a family and as soon as I got home they put me on the ground to go potty (without a leash, collar or ID) and I bolted and headed straight for the woods. I was lost for six days and nights in the snow and 20 degree weather. There was an army of people out looking for me on foot, posters passed out, sightings turned in – but I was so terrified that when sighted I would run back into the woods and hide. A live trap was put out and miraculously I was finally caught. None of the searchers could believe I had survived considering the terrible weather, coyotes, etc. My owners surrendered me to the woman that headed up the search party and she is now my Foster Mom. I was so terrified of everything and of being lost again that I would tremble all over whenever my Foster Mom took me outside to go potty. I didn’t want to be put down on the ground. My Foster Mom has me 95% “pee pad” trained. All I want to do is be cuddled and to play. I get along fine with other small dogs. I am desperately looking for a home where I will be safe and get one on one attention and training. My Foster Mom (and everyone else that has seen the transformation) feels I have really come a long way. So if you have a warm lap, big heart and loving arms I would appreciate you considering me for adoption. Because I am still skittish, it would be best if I were adopted into a laid back family atmosphere, and because I am so tiny I could not go to a family with young children. I am up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm checked, micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration). Currently being fostered in Almont, MI. You must have a completely fenced and secured yard in order to adopt me.

**UPDATE: Jeana was adopted 2/6/16 by a very loving and compassionate couple in Farmington Hills, MI. Here is a picture of Jeana with her new Forever Mom and Dad and her new brother, Dash.

NAME: JERSEY (renamed EMMA)
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 10/11/13
COLOR: Black, docked tail, natural ears
WEIGHT: 70#
BIO: Hi there my name is Jersey. I was surrendered to SCBR because my Dad was tragically killed in a car accident, therefore leaving me in need of a new forever home. I had previously been boarded for about a month and am in desperate need of a new loving family and forever home. I am housetrained, crate trained and kennel trained. I am very active and do tend to play a little rough with smaller dogs, but I am not aggressive with them. I have been crated and kenneled so much that when I do get to go out and run freely, it takes me a little while to work the excitement of freedom out of my system. I am a very sweet, happy and loving girl and I just want to be with someone whenever possible. I walk fairly well on a leash and ride very well in a car. I get along great with other dogs, older children and adults. Because of my activity level I should not be around small children. In the excitement of playing I could very easily and quite accidently knock them down. I would be very well suited in a home with another dog that is willing and able to run and play with me, and would be best suited to a family that is active and willing to play with me. I am very well behaved in the house and tend to settle down and not be as active. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and micro-chipped. So, if you are looking for a very loving and attentive companion, I am your girl. I do have a very high prey drive and will seek & destroy any small animals (i.e. squirrels bunnies, cats, etc.) I am definitely NOT cat friendly.

**UPDATE: Well, 7/19/16 was the day that Emma was so patiently waiting for. Emma was adopted by a phenomenal family in Harper Woods, MI. Emma’s new Mom is a true-blue “repeat offender”. This her sixth Bouvier that she has adopted. Emma not only filled the void left in her heart due to the unexpected loss of her previous Bouvier, but she has more than filled the void left in Emma’s heart due to the unexpected loss of her former Dad. There were quite a few people chomping at the bit to adopt Emma, but this woman fit Emma’s wish list to a “T”. Emma’s extended family has had Bouviers for years and they have all welcomed her with open arms, as well as Emma’s new neighbors. This was a match made in heaven and we are so grateful to be able to make everyone’s dreams come true.

NAME: JOSIE
BREED: Beagle/Basset Hound mix
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: 4.5 yro
COLOR: Tri-color
WEIGHT: 47#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Josie. I was surrendered to SCBR by a family that lived in Ohio. I was surrendered due to a hateful neighbor. My family feared for my life and safety. The despicable neighbor threw firecrackers at me and even purposely had his dog attack me. I am housetrained and crate trained. I get along fine with the cats that my previous owner had as well as other dogs. I love, love, love children. I act slow and easy like a Basset. I walk very well on a leash and love to go for car rides. I will get in the garbage can, if you are silly enough to leave it out and available. I do love to play with and collect socks. I do not chew or destroy them, I just like to collect the. So if you are ever looking for the “other” sock, don’t blame the dryer bandit – just check out my stash first. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and micro-chipped (w/a lifetime registration). So if you could find it in your heart to give me a safe and loving forever home, I would be eternally grateful. If you are looking for your new best friend and companion – look no further – I am your girl.

**UPDATE: Josie was adopted 10/22/16 by a very loving family in Sterling Heights, MI. They have been owned by dogs for many years and we are sure they will provide Josie with the best home she could possibly dream of.

NAME: JIGGY
BREED: Poodle
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 2/2/11 (approx. 5yrs old)
COLOR: Black
WEIGHT: approx. 9#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Jiggy. I was surrendered to SCBR because of my Mom’s health and her un-ability to be able to properly care for me any longer. My Foster Mom says that I am a really good girl, just a little on the shy side. With the proper amount of love and care I should come out of my shyness in a short time. I was surrendered along with my companion, Jack, however we are not siblings. My foster Mom feels that we would be better off being separated rather than adopted together because I tend to let Jack take center stage and whenever he is around I just hang out in the shadows. I get along great with other dogs. I am housetrained and crate trained and do love to cuddle and play. Because of my size it is not recommended that I be adopted by a family with real young children. When I came in I was matted and in desperate need of a haircut, but thanks to my Foster Mom (and groomer) working her magic I cleaned up very nicely don’t you think? I am up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm checked, micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration). Currently being fostered in Almont, MI. You must have a completely fenced and secured yard in order to adopt me.
**UPDATE: Jiggy was adopted 2/7/16 by a very loving family in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. They recently had to say goodbye to their 16yro Black Poodle and fell in love with Jiggy. Jiggy not only has a new Mom but also has a 6yro Bichon brother to keep her company.

NAME: KODA
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 2/17/09
COLOR: Fawn, docked & cropped
WEIGHT: approx. 75#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Koda. I was surrendered to SCBR by my Dad because he was unable to give me the time and companionship he knew that I deserved. It took my Dad a good month to decide to surrender me because he wanted to check out SCBR and its facility prior to making the very difficult decision to release me. I am great with other dogs, children and people. I am housetrained, walk well on leash and just love everyone and everything I come in contact with. My Dad did a fantastic job raising and training me and there was never a lack of love. I am the “perfect package”. I am up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm checked, micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration). Currently being fostered in Imlay City, MI. You must have a completely fenced and secured yard in order to adopt me.
**UPDATE: Koda was adopted 2/13/16 by a very loving woman in Denver, CO, that had adopted two Bouviers from SCBR, Bruno & Onyx, 10/2013. Regretfully Bruno unexpectedly went to the Rainbow Bridge and Onyx and her Mom were devastated. Koda’s new Mom waited patiently for over a month for him to be taken into the rescue. We transported Koda to Iowa, where his new Mom met us. A match made in heaven. Koda made it safe and sound to his new home, is settling in just fine with Onyx and is awaiting the celebration of his birthday in a couple of days.

NAME: LOUIE
BREED: Shih Tzu (possibly Maltese mix)
GENDER: Male (to be neutered)
AGE: Born 5/31/16
COLOR: White & Black
WEIGHT: 3#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Louie. I was purchased from a breeder when I was only about five weeks old (which was way too young to be taken away from my Mother). After my Mom brought me home, my new Dad decided that he wasn’t interested in having a puppy, so I was surrendered to SCBR. When my foster Mom went to pick me up she noticed that I had a very noticeable overbite and my gums and tongue were almost white. She immediately rushed me to the vet and they put me on IV fluids and ran a bunch of tests. I was so weak, dehydrated and lethargic from not eating that I was kept there overnight. Because of my overbite and the fact that I was being fed dry puppy food (which I couldn’t chew yet) I wasn’t receiving the proper nourishment. My foster Mom brought me home and hand fed me canned dog food until I figured out how to eat and I have miraculously bounced back from deaths doorstep within just a couple of days. Because of my age I cannot be neutered until I am six months old. I am crate trained and will whine to let you know I have to go potty. I am looking for a stay at home Mom because I don’t like being left alone for long periods of time. I get along fantastic with other dogs and “dog friendly” cats. Due to my size I would have to go to a family with grown children.. I love, love, love to cuddle and play, and will melt in your arms if you can give good belly rubs. I will be UTD on all age appropriate vaccinations and wormed. I am too young to be heartworm checked, or micro-chipped.

**UDATE: Precious Little Louie was adopted 8/27/16 by a very loving family in Dryden, MI. This family is a “repeat offender” because they had adopted Wilson from us last year. Their hearts just melted when they first saw Louie and knew it was meant to be.

NAME: MEIKA (fawn)
BREED: Bouvier des Flanders (AKC)
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 1/18/10
COLOR: Fawn Brindle (docked tail, cropped ears)
WEIGHT: 117#

NAME: MOOSTA (black)
BREED: Bouvier des Flanders (AKC)
GENDER: Male (to be neutered)
AGE: Born 4/4/10
COLOR: Black (docked tail, cropped ears)
WEIGHT: 98.8#

BIO: Hi there, our names are Meika and Moosta. We were purchased as puppies for breeding purposes when we were a couple of months old. We were surrendered to SCBR by our Dad, because he was moving out of state for work and was unable to take us with him. Meika has had a couple of litter of puppies with her mate, Moosta. Meika and Moosta are a “bonded pair” and must be adopted out together. They are both housetrained, crate trained and very intelligent and obedient. They walk well on a leash and were the perfect passengers on their rescue ride from Gladwin, MI. They are both very well trained and would be the perfect addition to any family. They get along fabulously with children, adults and other dogs. Meika is definitely NOT cat friendly, as her Foster Mom found out a couple of days after she arrived. Without any warning, her cat accidently found himself in Meika’s mouth. She didn’t hurt him, just covered him with slobber – but needless to say – could have done damage if she had wanted to. Everyone at the vets office fell in love with both of them. Regretfully neither of them had been kept UTD on vaccinations, heartworm tested or on heartworm preventative and poor Moosta checked low positive for heartworm and will therefore have to undergo heartworm treatment. Because they are so bonded, Moosta was beside himself when he was separated for Meika’s surgery. He wouldn’t eat, drink or anything – just paced and wailed while she was gone. Their Foster Mom has tried to separate them, but poor Moosta cannot be without his mate. For that reason, it has been decided that they must be adopted together. Moota will be getting his heartworm treatment shortly and will have to be quarantined for a month to make sure he is “cured”. Because he was so traumatized when separated from Meika, SCBR and the vets feel that Meika should physically be with Moosta to comfort him thru his recovery. Moosta will be neutered once he has fully recovered from his heartworm treatment. They will both be UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped (w/lifetime registrations) when adopted. If you are interested in adopting this very special bonded pair you must have a completely fenced and secure yard (not electric or invisible fence). We are currently screening all applications – looking for that special home that this pair deserves.

**UPDATE: Meika & Moosta were adopted together on 11/14/16 by a phenomenal family in Macomb, MI. These re-repeat offenders were sent to us from heaven. Their parents not only previously adopted from us, but they have as well. This was a match made in heaven. If we had a recipe for the “perfect family” for these two dogs (or ANY of our rescues), they would have fit the mold. Both dogs are doing fantastic in their new home and we have already received emails saying how well everything is going.

NAME: OREO
BREED: Lhasa Apso
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 11/3/07
COLOR: White w/black
WEIGHT: 16#
BIO: Hi there, please meet Oreo. She was surrendered to SCBR along with her sister, Tipper, due to the unexpected passing of their Dad a month ago. They were both purchased from a quality breeder when they were puppies. They both have had a very pampered life. After a long, hard month it was decided by the family that it would be in both of their best interests to find a forever home of their own. They do not have to be adopted out together. The family, as well as their life-long groomer feels that they will do just fine – maybe even better – if they are apart. Oreo is a little insecure around Tipper. Oreo loves belly rubs and gives kisses of thanks. Just a little cuddle bug. Tipper does also – but we feel she is taking the loss of her beloved Dad a little harder and has been a little more upset with the recent changes in their lives. They are both housetrained, very easy to groom, UTD on all vaccinations, very healthy, heart worm negative and crate trained. We are looking for quiet homes with no children, or children 12yrs or older. They both get along well with “dog friendly” cats, but they do not need another dog in their life. They both deserve their own family that they do not have to share. They are both “couch potatoes”. They do love their walks and to cuddle. They were both very well taken care of and loved tremendously by their Dad. Oreo is less vocal than Tipper. Tipper is a little more vocal and more of a watchdog than Oreo. So if you are looking for a very loving and devoted companion, please consider one of them. Put the sparkle back into your live as well as theirs. They have so much love to offer, they just need someone to share it with. Although we prefer they go to a house with a completely fenced and secure yard, we think they would both be just fine in a condo, apartment or townhouse; as long as they are taken out for potty breaks and exercise ON A LEASH.

**UPDATE: Oreo was adopted 9/13/16 by a very loving family in Okemos, MI. Here’s a picture of Oreo with her new “Forever Mom & Dad”.

NAME: PENNY
BREED: Bouvier des Flanders (mix)
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 8/4/15
COLOR: Fawn Brindle, natural tail and ears
WEIGHT: 51#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Penny. I was surrendered by my family to a shelter in Houghton, MI (Upper Peninsula) because they were not physically able to take care of a puppy and felt it would be best for me if I found a new forever home where they could devote the love and time to me that I deserved. My Mom was a Bouvier, but they aren’t sure what my Dad(s) were. When I was turned in to the animal shelter I was completely un-socialized and never had the opportunity to run in a fenced in yard, play with people or other dogs. I learned very quickly that I really enjoyed experiencing these things. I have the prettiest and softest coat and as good as I look now, I’ll bet I will be drop dead gorgeous once I am bathed and groomed. I am housetrained, crate trained, know some basic commands and get along great with people., older children and other dogs. I love to go for walks and love to play with toys. I am very active, energetic and playful. I am very inquisitive and alert and seem to catch on very quickly. I love to be around people and would be perfectly content running and playing with children in the yard. I could play for hours. I am definitely not a couch potato and need someone that can keep up with my energy. I would be best suited in a family with an active lifestyle and older children that would love to run and play with me. I would get along best with an energetic dog that could keep up with me. I would not be a good companion for a senior or laid back dog. Because I am so young, I would probably run an older dog ragged trying to keep up with me. So if you are looking to make a lifetime commitment, I have all the love you could possibly wish for to offer you. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm checked and micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration). Most likely not cat friendly.

**UPDATE: Penny was adopted 5/3/16 by a very loving Bouvier family in Center Line, MI. Penny not only got herself a her “Forever Mom and Dad”, she also acquired a senior Bouvier brother named, Mosley.

NAME: ROSIE
BREED: Basenji mix
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Born 5/21/15
COLOR: Beige and White
WEIGHT: 45#
BIO: Hi, my name is Rosie. I originally came from Alabama when I was a puppy. I was surrendered to SCR by an older couple that adopted me from the Humane Society. They truly loved me, but didn’t take into consideration that I was so young and they were not physically able to supply me with the energy that it takes to raise a puppy. They put me on a social media page and received a ton of replies, but none of the inquiries were what they wanted for me. They desperately wanted me to go to a home that had my best interest at heart, they wanted more for me and knew that theirs was not the ideal situation. I am a sweet girl that can run like the wind. I have had basic obedience and agility classes and had been taken to doggy day care, which I absolutely loved. I am submissive and very calm in the house and in the car. I get along fabulously with children (preferably over 9yro) and other dogs. My foster Mom feels that I am missing something in my life and that piece is a dog buddy, and I would love to go to a home with another dog that is also longing for a companion to share my love of life with. Especially another dog that loves to run and play and that leads an active lifestyle with lots of energy to spare. I have never chewed up anything. I am a little shy when meeting people for the first time and need a bit of confidence building, but would truly make a loving companion for the right family. I not only love to play, I also love to cuddle. My Foster Mom just loves me to death. I know some basic commands and love to go for walks. So if you are looking for a new best friend and loving companion- look no further – I am your girl. I am house trained, crate trained, UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration). Thunderstorms, vacuum cleaners, load noises do not bother me. Probably not cat friendly.

**UPDATE: Rosie was adopted 11/14/16 by a loving, knowledgeable and wonderful family in Fort Campbell, KY. Rosie not only has a new “forever home”, but also has a new “forever brother” named Domino.

NAME: ROXY (renamed Poppy)
BREED: Basset Hound / Corgi mix
GENDER: Female (to be spayed)
AGE: Born 7/19/16
COLOR: Tri-color
WEIGHT: 24#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Roxy. I was purchased at 8 weeks old by a family as a companion for their older Cocker Spaniel. My Mom thought she would be doing her other dog a big favor by getting him a companion to keep him company while she went back to work – however the Cocker decided I was too puppy for him – and that he would prefer to be an only child. So, it was in everyone’s best interest that I be surrendered to SCBR so that I could get a loving home where I could be properly trained and cared for. I love to play. I get along great with other dogs and am very social. I love to cuddle, go for walks and just be the puppy that I am. I am very intelligent, loving and obedient for my age. I am age appropriately UTD on all vaccinations. I am too young to be spayed, heartworm tested or get my rabies shot so this will have to be done when I am six months old. I am housetrained, crate trained and micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration). I love to play with other dogs and children. Due to the fact I am so young and active, it is not recommended that I be adopted by a family with real young children. I wouldn’t intentionally hurt them, but I still have my baby teeth and am so full of energy that I could accidently scratch or inappropriately nibble on them if given the opportunity. I walk fairly well on leash and love to play, go for walks and car rides. So if you are in the market for a new companion and best friend, I might be your girl. If you have an energetic/tolerant dog that is in need of a companion or playmate, this could be a win-win situation. There is no better teacher than a dog that already knows the rules and expectations of your home. Because I was so young when originally adopted, I was not afforded the opportunity to learn what acceptable puppy behavior was. The best way for me to learn is by example. My foster Mom has made tremendous strides in helping me to realize my true potential while being firm enough in her commitment to correct me if I cross the line. She has taught me basic commands and I am responding quite well. I am young enough that you could receive the rewards of properly training me and molding me into everything you have ever wanted. I am cat friendly.

**UPDATE: Poppy was adopted 12/16/16 by a very loving family in Kalamazoo, MI. Poppy not only has a new forever Mom & Dad, but also has a new brother and sister (two-legged) to play with. This should make for a very Merry Christmas for everyone – especially Poppy.

NAME: SAMMY
BREED: Yorkshire Terrier
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 10/31/12
COLOR: Brown & Black
WEIGHT: 6#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Sammy. I was surrendered to SCBR because my former owner never had time for me and I was left alone with her 87yro Mother. Her Mother was unable to properly care for me, so the family decided it was best to find me a loving forever home. I am perfectly “pee pad” trained. I will go outside on a leash to eliminate, but I am not fond of cold weather, wet grass, rain, etc. I am so tiny that if a strong wind came along, I would turn into a canine tumble weed. I love to be held, cuddled and talked to. My one special trait is that I love to SMILE (as you can see in my picture). Some people when they first see me smile think that I am going to bite them, which couldn’t be farther from the truth. I get along great with children, adults, dogs and cats. Because I am so tiny, children should be well supervised when they are around me, more for my own protection than theirs. I walk well on leash and love going for car rides. So if you are looking for the perfect lap dog and companion, I am your guy. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, micro-chipped (with a lifetime registration).

**UDATE: Sammy was adopted 12/1/16 by a very loving family in Athens, MI. Here is his adopted picture with his new Forever Mom and little sister, Stella (in pink). Ironically, Stella also smiles so they will make quite the pair. Sammy’s Foster Mom met Sammy’s Forever Mom part way and felt this was a perfect match for everyone.

NAME: THEODORE (renamed Henry)
BREED: Bouvier mix (possibly w/Shepherd or Wheaten Terrier)
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 8/19/11
COLOR: Fawn/Blonde natural ears & tail
WEIGHT: 56#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Theodore. SCBR had been unsuccessfully trying to rescue me since February of 2016. My Mom passed away suddenly and I was left at home with her son, who didn’t want me or want to take care of me. Finally one of the son’s co-workers managed to get me because the son threatened to let me loose in hopes I would be hit and killed by a car. The co-worker contacted SCR and asked if they would take me if he could get me from the family. Finally, I was saved and turned over to SCBR. Not only was I intact when SCBR took me to the vet, I was not UTD on any of my vaccinations, heartworm tested, or on any heartworm or flea prevention. I was infested with fleas, anemic (due to the flea infestation), malnourished and dehydrated. I also have an enlarged prostate gland which may be due to the fact that only one of my testicles had dropped. I am on antibiotics now and when they neuter me and do surgery to retrieve my other testicle they are hoping that this will eliminate my enlarged prostate gland. With the neglect that I had endured since my Mom passed away everyone was so surprised at how loving and friendly I am. I get along great with older children and other dogs. I just want to be near people and be loved. I appear to be housetrained because I am very neat and clean in my kennel run. I am just the sweetest guy you have ever seen. No one is sure exactly what I am mixed with, the vet thinks it could be a Wheaten Terrier and/or Shepherd, but one of my parents were definitely a Bouvier. I do have a long tail, even though you can’t see it in these pictures. I get along very well with all the other dogs at the facility and just want to play with them. I am very loving and attentive with children as well as adults. I walk well on leash and love, love, love to cuddle. By the time I am adopted I will be neutered, UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm checked and on preventative and micro-chipped (w/lifetime registration). So, if you are looking for someone to be your life-long and loving companion - I am your guy. I am perfectly happy as long as I am with someone. Possibly cat friendly.

**UPDATE: Theodore was adopted 10/1/16 by a very special and loving family in Wayzata, MN. Theodore is the complete opposite of everything they originally were looking for (i.e.: female, young, purebred Bouvier) but when his new Forever Mom saw him on our website and read his bio – her heart just melted – she knew he was the one. Here is a picture of Theodore with his new Forever Mom & Dad, as well as his “first selfie” that was taken on his way home to MN.

NAME: TIPPER
BREED: Lhasa Apso
GENDER: Female (spayed)
AGE: Bon 11/3/07
COLOR: Black/white
WEIGHT: 16#
BIO: Hi there, please meet Tipper. She was surrendered to SCBR along with her sister, Oreo, due to the unexpected passing of their Dad a month ago. They were both purchased from a quality breeder when they were puppies. They both have lead a very pampered life. After a long, hard month, it was decided by the family that it would be in both of their best interest to find a forever home of their own. They do not have to be adopted out together. The family, as well as their life-long groomer, feels that they will do just fine – maybe even better – if they are apart. Tipper loves belly rubs and gives kisses of thanks. Just a little cuddle bug. We feel Tipper is taking the loss of her beloved Dad a little harder and has been a little more upset with the recent changes in their lives. Tipper is housetrained, very easy to groom, UTD on all vaccinations, very healthy, heart worm negative and crate trained. We are looking for quiet homes with no children, or children 12yrs or older. Tipper gets along well with “dog friendly” cats, but they do not need another dog in their life. Tipper deserves her own family that she does not have to share. Tipper is housetrained, very easy to groom, UTD o all vaccinations, very healthy, heartworm negative, crate trained and micro-chipped w/lifetime registration. They are both “couch potatoes”. They do love their walks and to cuddle. They were both very well taken care of and loved tremendously by their Dad. Oreo is less vocal than Tipper. Tipper is a little more vocal and more of a watchdog than Oreo. So if you are looking for a very loving and devoted companion, please consider Tipper (Oreo was already adopted).

**UPDATE: Tipper was adopted 10/2/16 by a very loving family in Allen Park, MI. They had dogs before and were looking for that special companion to help fill the emptiness in their lives. Here’s a picture of Tipper with her new “Forever Family”.

NAME: TOBY
BREED: Bouvier des Flandres
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: Born 9/30/09
COLOR: Black, docked tail & natural ears
WEIGHT: 116#
BIO: Hi there, my name is Toby. I was surrendered to SCBR because my elderly Mom passed away, therefore leaving me in need of a new forever home. There were no family members available or willing to take me in, but thankfully one family member was kind enough to care for me until he could safely ensure that I would go to a rescue that could find me a wonderful home. I was the apple of my Mom’s eye, her guardian, protector and loving companion. As you can tell by my weight, I was never slighted in the Milk Bone department. Even though I am a stocky boy, I could afford to lose a couple of pounds, which I’m sure I will once I’m given the opportunity to run, play and get proper exercise. I am in desperate need of a new loving family and forever home that is willing and able to show me even half the love and attention that I am willing to show them. I am housetrained, crate trained and kennel trained. I do look a little ragged in the top picture and will be shaved down by SCBR shortly. Consider me a diamond in the rough. I am very loving and attentive ad am looking for a kind and loving lap to lay my head in. I walk very well on leash and ride well in a car. I get along great with other dogs, older children and adults. Because of my size it is not recommended that I go to a family with small children. I am UTD on all vaccinations, heartworm checked and micro-chipped w/lifetime registration. So if you are looking for that special someone to share your hopes and dreams with, I am your man.

**UPDATE: Toby was adopted 7/10/16 by a fabulous woman in Belleville, IL. Toby thought he died and went to heaven when he got to his new home. He has his own private, perfectly landscaped “doggie park” for a back yard. We have already heard from his new Mom and he was the perfect gentleman on hi ride home and has fit perfectly into his new life.
